Getting in Touch With Your Organization’s Identity

There’s a lot of talk about resolutions right about now. My LinkedIn is chock full of them.

I’ll let you in one a secret: I don’t have a single one.

The funny thing about resolutions is that nearly all of them answer a question about “WHAT”:

  • What are we going to do more of?

  • What will we do differently?

  • What will we do less of?

If you're a fan of Simon Sinek like I am, you know that starting with a question that begins with “what” isn’t going to go very far.

It may be why only 9% of resolutions stick. Focusing on “whats” gets you a lot of hustle but not a lot of results.

Simon Sinek talks about starting with "WHY": tapping into your organization's purpose and ensuring every decision flows from there.

At Parable, we take it one step further.

We believe that mission-driven organizations and leaders can’t answer the question of “why” until they answer the question of “WHO”:

  • Who are you in relation to your work?

  • What work puts you or your organization in your flow state?

  • What are the inherent characteristics of your team that make you like no other team on earth?

So if you are a leader looking to grow in 2023, can we agree to ditch the resolution list?

Consider reflecting on why you do what you do, of course.

But better yet, spend time thinking about WHO you inherently are that makes you the right person or team to do it in the first place. Answering this question (and then strategizing accordingly) is critical to unlocking organic growth in 2023.

WHO's with me?
