The Importance of Thinking About Wins Holistically
At the advice of a trusted friend and mentor, I sat down a few weeks ago to jot down a few reflections on professional accomplishments for the year.
I found myself writing down something different.
More often than not, I realized I was writing personal wins instead of professional ones: my husband and I got our daughter to sleep through the night (well, sort of). We advocated for our son in ways we didn’t expect. We spent more time with the people that keep us filled up, including each other.
None of this is earth-shattering. And it certainly doesn’t warrant a blog post.
What is game-changing is integrating personal and professional accomplishments. One fuels the other.
It got me thinking:
That for every professional accomplishment any of us have had this year, there is likely a personal one that made it possible.
(You better believe that getting a string of good sleep after 2 sleep-deprived years helped me grow my business. That spending time with people who make me feel at home helped me to step out of my comfort zone when I was outside of it.)In the next few weeks, as you take time to think about where you want to head next year, be sure to take a pause.
Give yourself the space to reflect on your many wins.
And pay extra attention to the personal ones - they are likely an indication that there are a lot of professional ones, too.
