A Different Kind of Opt Out

Full transparency alert: I had planned to publish a blog post this week about the business case for rest.

But...

I didn’t finish it.

I was working on it during a week of poor sleep, during evenings when I wanted to be with my husband and kids, and with a nagging cold.

It took far too many hours for the irony of it all to hit me.

There was no way I could authentically make the business case for rest when I hadn’t made time for, well, rest.

And so I stopped.

Doing so felt uncomfortable, and I worried I was letting myself and my growing business down.

But then I realized. It’s easy to talk about rest. There’s an entire industry devoted to wellness and self-care. Actually doing the work of rest? That’s pretty hard.

So here’s to the half-written blog posts, the email drafts deleted, and the newsletters gone unsent. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it: sometimes, just sometimes, those are the real wins.
