How to Get Comfortable Telling Your Story
I hear this from clients a lot:
"I like to write. Why is it so hard to write and talk about myself?"
If this feels like you, you are not alone.
Here are 5 ways to get comfortable telling your story:
Imagine talking with a friend.
-Think about the questions you would ask a new friend.
-Ask yourself the same questions and write down your responses.
-Do this a few times and look for themes.
Think like a five year-old.
-Imagine a child asks you about your superpower.
-Write down what you would tell them.
-Look for similarities in # 1.
Make decisions on the spot.
-Do this with simple decisions, like deciding what you want for dinner.
-Trust that you *know* without having to pause or second-guess.
-Chase that feeling as you tell your story.
Use scraps.
-When you put words to paper, do it on scrap paper.
-Give yourself permission to play and experiment.
-Practice telling a story without the pressure of perfection.
Unfriend the inner critic.
-Recognizing when you need help seeing yourself more objectively.
-Seek out a trusted partner to tell you what THEY see.
-Let this narrative replace the inner critic.
